Anna and the Blind Tobit
The story of Anna, her husband and their son Tobias is told in the apocryphal Book of Tobit (chapter 2). God tested their faith by reducing them to poverty and blinding Tobit. In the 17th century they were considered to be examples of piety in adversity. This painting was probably painted in Leiden just before Rembrandt's move to Amsterdam.
