Don Andrés del Peral
Peral was a gilder, like Goya's father, and employed at the royal court in Madrid; the two men must have known each other well. Peral even owned a number of Goya's paintings. When exhibited at the Royal Academy in Madrid in 1798, this portrait was highly praised. The droop on the left side of Peral's face may have been the result of an illness such as palsy.
