The Channel of Gravelines, Grand Fort-Philippe
Seurat spent the summer of 1890 at Gravelines, a small harbour town about 15 miles from Calais. This is one of four landscapes he painted during his visit and also one of his final paintings: he died suddenly the following year. The channel links Gravelines with the open sea.
