A Nymph by a Stream

Renoir's model, Lise Tréhot, is depicted as a naked nymph of antiquity, wearing only a wreath of leaves in her hair. The unusual combination of a classical motif with a realist treatment of the figure both evokes a mythical notion of the female body and invites, the viewer directly into the picture's idyllic setting.
