Scorn

Cupid beats a man lying on his back, tormented by love. Carrying an ermine, a symbol of purity, the veiled woman seems to be leading her more seductively attired companion away. They may be personifications of different, complementary aspects of love - spiritual and physical. The broken statue of a satyr signifies base lust, inadmissible in a virtuous life.
