Die vorliegende Ölskizze ist eine Studie für ein Bild, das 1737 zur Dekoration des Speisesaals Ludwigs XV. im Schloss von Fontainebleau gemalt wurde. Die fertige Leinwand (Louvre, Paris) wurde abgenutzt und behält ihre Form oben und unten nicht mehr bei. Der Schwung und die Frische der Skizze spiegeln Vanloos Ausbildung und ausgedehnte Tätigkeit in Italien wider.

The present oil sketch is a study for a picture painted in 1737 to decorate Louis XV's dining room at the château of Fontainebleau. The finished canvas (Louvre, Paris) has been eut down and no longer retains the shaped top and bottom. The verve and freshness of the sketch reflect Vanloo's training and extended activity in Italy.
