Das Bild entstand, als der Künstler wahrscheinlich Anfang Zwanzig war, und zeichnet sich durch seine exquisiten Details aus. Möglicherweise wurde es von Borso d'Este, dem Herzog von Ferrara, in Auftrag gegeben, und sein Stil scheint eine Reaktion auf die dortige Mode für niederländische Malerei zu sein. Obwohl das Gemälde von Holz auf Leinwand übertragen wurde, ist es in ausgezeichnetem Zustand.

Painted when the artist was probably in his early twenties, the picture is notable for its exquisite detail. It may have been commissioned by Borso d'Este, the duke of Ferrara, and its style seems to be a response to the vogue there for Netherlandish painting. Although transferred from wood to canvas, the painting is in excellent condition.
