Thronende Maria mit Kind und zwei Engeln

Die Jungfrau hält als Braut Christi eine Rose in der Hand und sitzt auf dem Thron der Weisheit. Auf der von einem Engel gehaltenen Schriftrolle heißt es: „Kommt zu mir, alle, die ihr nach mir verlangt, und lasst euch von meinen Früchten sättigen.“ (Ecclesiasticus 24:19) Das Bild ist das Zentrum eines wichtigen Triptychons. Lippi war der innovativste Maler Italiens und achtete besonders auf die niederländische Malerei: Bemerkenswert ist hier sein abwechslungsreiches Studium des Lichts und der aktiven Pose des Kindes, möglicherweise inspiriert von der Skulptur Donatellos.

The Virgin holds a rose as the Bride of Christ and is seated on the Throne of Wisdom. The scroll held by an angel reads: "Come over to me, all ye that desire me, and be filled with my fruits." (Ecclesiasticus 24:19) The picture is the center of an important triptych. Lippi was the most innovative painter in Italy and closely attentive to Netherlandish painting: notable here is his varied study of light and the active pose of the child, perhaps inspired by the sculpture of Donatello.
