The statue comes from the former Church of Our Lady on the Pool in Prague's Old Town. Jude the Apostle was frequently depicted by Czech Baroque sculptors. Braun rendered him as an old man with an impressive restless appearance whose swift motion is manifested by his left arm gesture. However, the brilliant modelling of his head with half-closed eyes and an open mouth does not allude to the supernatural ecstasy of a visionary but rather a vigorous protector of good reputation, defined by the word "lebaeus" (hion-hearted, courageous) according to legendary tradition. Braun was distantly, yet clearly inspired by Bernini's statue of Saint Longines in Rome which he had seen with his own eyes.
Jako vzdálená, a přece zřetelná inspirace Braunovi posloužila Berniniho socha sv. Longina v Římě, kterou znal z vlastní zkušenosti.
