The Master of the Třeboň Altarpiece, active probably in the Prague court circles, is inarguably a very significant personality of the European painting of the International style. His artistic notions are very much linked with the technology of the painting and the style of the Franco-Flemish production. The Master created a winged altarpiece for the monastery of the Augustinian canonicates in Třeboň, founded in 1367 by the noble family of Rosenberg. Not more than three panels painted on both sides have survived. The central scene, presumably with the Crucifixion, and one of the panels painted on both sides are lost. The Passion scenes with the red background used to decorate most probably the outer sides of the wings, on the inner sides of the wings are Saints on the golden background connected with the consecration of the church (St Giles and St Mary Magdalene) and with the order of the Augustinian canonicates (St Augustine and St Jerome). The personality of the Master matched the well-educated canonicates of the St Augustine order, which influenced substantially the spiritual life (renewed Augustinianism, devotio moderna) not only in Bohemia under Charles IV but in the whole of Central Europe. Nowadays to the Master of the Třeboň Altarpiece and his workshop are being ascribed the Madonna of Roudnice, the figures of the Saint virgins on the frame of the Madonna Aracoeli, the Panel from Cirkvice, and the Nativity from the Hluboká Castle.

The scene with Christ on the Mount of Olives has a meditative character which follows from the motif of Christ left alone and whose neck and forehead are covered with drops of bloody sweat.

Máří Magdaléna) a s řádem augustiniánů kanovníků (sv. Augustin, sv.
