The multi-figural Crucifixion displays several iconogcaphical innovations such as the motif of St Mary Magdalene embracing the Cross with a painful gesture, a motif derived from the work of Giotto and his followers in Italy. The motif of blood dripping from Christ's side on the overcoat of the Virgin Mary is also new and is based on the contemporary spiritual text of the Dialogue between St Anselm and the Virgin Mary.
Vyšebrodské vícefigurální Ukřižování vykazuje některé ikonografické inovace, jako například motiv sv. Máří Magdalény objímající s bolestným gestem kříž, odvozený z italské giottovské a pogiottovské tvorby. Nový je i motiv krve prýštící z Kristova boku na plášť Panny Marie, který se opírá o soudobý duchovní text - tzv. Rozmluvu sv. Anselma a Pannou Marií.
