Nach der Rückeroberung Parmas überfielen die verbündeten päpstlichen und kaiserlichen Truppen im Schutz der Nacht das von Franzosen besetzte Mailand, dessen Tore durch Verrat geöffnet worden waren. Am linken Bildrand ist Federico Gonzaga dargestellt, der auf einem Schimmel reitend an der Spitze eines Zuges von Fußsoldaten in die Stadt einzieht.
