The National Galleries of Scotland is home to over 50,000 works of art on paper. including drawings in all media, artists' prints and photographs. When not on display. these collections are available for viewing in study rooms at the Gallery of Modern Art (GMA) 2 and Portrait Gallery (PG).

The Prints and Drawings Study Room at GMA 2 brings together the historic prints and drawings collection previously housed here at the Scottish National Gallery, with the modern and contemporary collections, allowing visitors the opportunity to view together artworks dating from the early Renaissance to the present day. Highlights include masterpieces by Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Dürer, Rembrandt, Blake, Goya, Kandinsky, Matisse, Picasso, Freud and Tracey Emin. The collection of Scottish art is the finest in the world, and includes outstanding works by Ramsay, Wilkie, McTaggart, the Glasgow Boys. Eardley, Mackintosh, Paolozzi and Charles Avery. The GMA 2 Study Room is also home to the Vaughan Bequest of J.M.W. Turner watercolours, which are exhibited every January and viewable through the rest of the year by appointment.

The Print Room at the Portrait Gallery houses graphic works of portraiture and the national photography collection, which includes the largest collection of Hill and Adamson anywhere.
